WHO WE ARE
Responding to Disclosures of Sexual Violence on University and College Campuses in Ontario is developed by the Centre for Research & Education on Violence Against Women & Children

Six universities and three colleges representing: faculty, administration, residence, counselling and accessibility supports, Indigenous services, health and wellness, human rights, equity and diversity, and safety and security. The Canadian Federation of Students for Ontario, the Ontario Coalition of Rape Crisis Centers and a Survivors’ Advisory Committee
This training has been developed as a result of many years of innovation and action to prevent sexual violence and support survivors in the province of Ontario.
TIMELINE
2011 – The Ontario government developed the Sexual Violence Action Plan to prevent sexual violence and improve responses to survivors. “Ending sexual violence is a shared responsibility that will require the efforts of all Ontarians. It starts with changing attitudes, behaviours, and beliefs. It requires a commitment to ensure that survivors are treated with respect and dignity and receive the supports they need to recover and change their lives.” SVAP 2011
2013 – The Ontario government created, Developing a Response to Sexual Violence: A Resource Guide For Ontario’s Colleges and Universities
2015 – The Province of Ontario unveiled It’s Never Okay See the PSA: #WhoWillYouHelp?
Also the government introduced the Sexual Violence and Harassment Act, Bill 132, which amends the Ministry of Training Colleges and Universities Act and also the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act.
2016 – The Ontario government released Walking Together: Ontario’s Long-Term Strategy to End Violence Against Indigenous Women
